Isn't this a great photo? It was taken in September of 2008 at Rock Springs Guest Ranch during the last Old West Ventures Annual Photo shoot. Left to Right~~~ Hud Crites on Honey, Heather Barklow on Murphy, Eric Batha on Chico, and Garrett Gregory on Hollywood. The 4 of us were fortunate enough to ride together for the past few photo shoots. Hud has ridden in about 18 and headed the deal up. I was able to ride in the last 7 and was always there to choose horses and orchestrate things behind the scenes. Eric has ridden in for the past 12 years every Sept. and Garrett is the newest, but of course, a superstar anyways! This photo and the many others to the right are by Georgia Martin Baker. Thank you for your love and support Georgia!!
Can you believe it? 2009?? Really? How exciting is that? I am thrilled, really, and Garrett and I actually stayed awake until well after midnight. Yep, we met our first goal for 2009, to stay awake over the threshold.
We had a great evening of good food, great drink, and exceptional friends. We spent the time leading up to the ball dropping with a few gals that I work with at the Vineyard and their families. We didn't get to finish our game of Cranium, but Garrett and I are still convinced that it is the greatest game EVER.. and we are the best team to EVER play it. :-)
It has been such an amazing year for me, and I'll speak for Garrett on this one, him too!! His highlight was spending it with me, of course. What a fabulous way to spend 365 days. I can think of nothing better and that is a good thing since I do spend 365 days a year with me. Garrett and I are enjoying our adventure in Millie, our Sundowner trailer. I decided that her name is Millie, I am not sure why, but it just feels right. :-)
The last week of 2008 was the best week ever. What a time of change and growth that we are under. It seems that everyday poses new challenges and a different perspective. We are fortunate to have each other and it is a great thing that we both accept each other as exactly that. :-)
Besides our normal jobs, we have been working around the Parrie Haynes Ranch on trails. We cleaned up a couple of the blue trails and then we improved and finished a white trail. It was so much fun. I really miss being outdoors and getting to use my body on a daily basis. But I am thankful for the experience I am having at the Vineyard. It is really solidifying many things about my future.
The trails, on the other hand, are perfect. Garrett has had the pleasure of riding them and I plan to get on our white trail on Monday or Tuesday. Murphy and Lightning are getting new shoes either Mon. or Tues. and that will be so great. Murphy has spent the last 7-8 weeks either lame or barefoot. He is finally starting to feel better. I have been riding him bareback, in his halter, and ponying Lightning along. Garrett and I did get to take one ride together over Christmas.
In other news, Garrett's mom, Terry, is coming for a week or so in February. Garrett and I have different days off so we will be able to keep her busy. He also gets Presidents day off so we will be able to all be together that Monday.
Garrett's dad, Randy, is also trying to come down at some point with Josh, Garrett's older brother. We are not sure yet when that will be but I know that we will have a great time together. :-)
Another thing that I wanted to share are the amazing pictures that I have attached. They are from a friend and photographer that we know, Georgia Martin. She sent us 6 different prints and 2 CDs with pictures on one and a slide show on the other. They are wonderful and I encourage you to check out her website. It is http://photocrafter.deviantart.com/ Georgia is very talented and was a photographer at 6 of the Old West Ventures Photo shoots that we held in the fall at Rock Springs Guest Ranch. Enjoy!!!
Well, I probably should get off to bed. I am back in the blog routine. Now that the holidays are over, I will do posts more regularly again. Oh, one more thing, in 10 days Garrett will be 1/4 of a century. Yep, January 14th is his 25th birthday! We are planning a little fishing trip the following Monday and who knows what on his special day...... ;-)
In love and never ending joy~~~HB & GG
